Paani Foundation saved 9,629 crore liters of water in 2 years for Maharashtra's drought affected villages.
As we know, Paani Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao in 2016 that comprises of the team associated with popular TV show, Satyamev Jayate, with Satyajit Bhatkal as its CEO and Reena Dutta as the COO. The main motive of the organisation is to provide the villagers with water saving and harvesting knowledge and a to give them a proper training - with an aim to make Maharashtra drought-free in about five years time.
In 2016, Satyamev Jayate Water Cup was organised by Paani foundation, taking three districts from different part of Maharashtra and indulging them into a competition to save water. As per reports, the first season of the Water Cup brought about a notable change in the villages by creating water storage of up to 13680 million liters of water, which is worth approximately 272 crore Indian Rupees.
The great response to the first edition of the water cup was widely appreciated and that helped Aamir & co to come up with a bigger second season of the competition signing up as many as 30 districts. The competition began on 4th April, 2017 and continued till 22nd of May.

After a hard-work of one and a half months, the results have finally began to show as soon as the monsoon has arrived and it's absolutely jaw-dropping.
The amount of water conserved in the 2nd season is reportedly almost 6 times more than that of the previous year, with approximately 8,261 crore liters of water saved across different districts of Maharashtra that is worth approximately 1650 crores Indian Rupees.
The compartment bunding and contour bunding created during the water cup is 2,055 kilometers long. 350 kilometers long Nalas have been made deeper and wider during the competition.

In only 2 years of its formation, Paani Foundation has brought a revolution as far as the drought situation in Maharashtra is concerned, by saving a total of 9629 crore liters of water.
Supported by noted industrialists and the hon'ble chief minister of Maharashtra himself, the work of Paani Foundation is likely to spread wider over the coming years with a lot of prosperity in store for the drought-affected villages.
