Is 'Mahabharata' on the cards up next for Aamir Khan Productions?

Recently, the reports came in about Aamir Khan leaving the project of Rakesh Sharma's biopic due to his shifted focus towards his own production house where he is looking to invest next ten years of his time in building a franchise. Since then, a lot of speculations have been going on.

According to some media sources, the venture Aamir is going to associate himself with is none other than the epic 'Mahabharata'. It is reported that Aamir Khan and his team have been doing a lot of research for the past 5 years and have gone through several books on 'Mahabharata' stored at a library in Pune. An entertainment journalist Himesh Mankad has put out a series of tweets to confirm the speculation. According to him, Aamir Khan also approached the veteran Hollywood director Mel Gibson to get involved in the project.

Mr Perfectionist is planning to shoot the film at a unheard budget. #Mahabharata will be a 6 to 7 part series, with 6 to 7 different team of writers/directors working on different chapters of the film.

One part of the film will release each year and all the films will be shot simultaneously one after another i.e. when the cast and crew will be shooting for part 1, another crew will be work on pre-production of part 2. #Mahabharata

According to my sources, @aamir_khan had met acclaimed Hollywood director, #MelGibson and was in talks with him to come on board to direct one of the major portions of the film. (PROBABLY the 5th or 6th part, consisting of war sequences)

It's known fact that, Aamir has always been passionate to create 'Mahabharata' on the silver screen and called it his dream project a several number of times. So, it has become only a matter of time to see if his dream is going to become a reality. 

If this speculation turns out to be true, Indian cinema should prepare for something gigantic.
