22 years of Rangeela. 5 reasons why it's an All-time Classic.

The 1995-blockbuster 'Rangeela' starring Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar and Jackie Shroff, directed by Ram Gopal Verma has completed 22 years of its release on 8th September. It has been a path-breaking film in Bollywood in many ways which is still remembered for its goods.

Here are the reasons why it deserves the 'cult-classic' status.

1. The inception of 'Tapori' culture in Bollywood :

Just when it looked like the audience is getting used to Aamir Khan as a 'chocolate hero' after films like 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', 'Dil', 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi' and 'Akele Hum Akele Tum', he decided to break his personal stereotype as he dissolved into the character of Munna. He developed a subtle 'tapori' accent and the dialogues were much loved by the audience and it was just a start for him in his journey to become one of the most versatile actors in the industry.

2. A.R. Rahman's Magic :

Music of 'Rangeela' by A.R. Rahman is an absolute bliss. From 'Kya Kare Kya Na Kare' to 'Hai Rama' or even the title track 'Rangeela Re' - the songs never fail to make their mark on the listeners. 'Rangeela' is regarded as one of Rahman's best works till date and that speaks for itself. Also, this was the first Hindi film Rahman had composed for, coming out of the Tamil film industry and the rest is, as they say, history.

3. The Dialogues :

Some of the dialogues of 'Rangeela' has made generations laugh out loud. Be it Aamir Khan in his tapori avatar complaining inside a packed theatre 'ye theater hai ki koyle ki bhatti..'..  or trying to make an impression by saying 'ye area me apun world famous hai.. world famous'. The film is filled with such simple yet witty dialogues, some of them crack you up in pieces as well as some of them do make you think.

4. Aamir-Urmila chemistry :

Urmila Matondkar was the ultimate find of 'Rangeela'. Her talent was duly recognized by the film industry after she nailed her character of "Mili' in this film. The on-screen pairing of Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar was nothing short of magical. The journey of two 'always-fighting' friends that eventually turns into a love interest was very well depicted by the on-screen pairing of the duo. The swag of Aamir's Munna and the charm of Urmila's Mili made the most impossible things seem possible.

4. The Storytelling :

Director Ram Gopal Verma was in his top form those days. For a 90s bollywood film revolving around a love triangle, there's always a chance of having unnecessary melodramatic presentation. But in this case, the film did manage to break the stereotypical "Bollywood-ish" storytelling, maintaining a proper pace throughout the film that kept the audience engaged.
